DSM Q591.9/D/Set, Pl. 34
The voyage of H.M.S. Beagle is one of the most significant voyages in the history of ideas. Originally planned to complete a survey of southern South America and some islands in the Pacific and to continue around the world, the voyage became a stimulus for the ideas that later crystallised as Darwin's theory of evolution.
On this voyage Darwin collected many specimens of plants, animals and fossils. Experts worked on the specimens and the Zoology of the Voyage of the Beagle was published between 1838 and 1843.
