Open:
20 February 2016 – 8 May 2016
Venue:
Exhibition Galleries

Public buildings and spaces define our towns and cities, today and into the future. This exhibition will explore the remarkable impact and legacy of the NSW Government Architect’s Office. In continuous operation since the early years of settlement, the GAO has created many of the state’s most celebrated buildings, and also some of its most controversial. The exhibition will feature a rich and rarely seen collection of original drawings, photographs, plans, paintings and models from both historic and contemporary times.

Planting Dreams: Celebrating Australian gardens at the State Library of NSW

Open:
3 September 2016 – 31 December 2016
Venue:
Exhibition Galleries

To mark the 200th anniversary of Sydney's Royal Botanic Garden, in early spring the Library will launch two major exhibitions that celebrate Australian gardens and garden making in all their richness and diversity. Spanning almost five centuries, Planting Dreams will bring together highlights from the Library's collection to explore the fusion of ideas, influences and inspirations that have shaped our gardening culture. A companion exhibition will showcase the best of contemporary public and private gardens in NSW through a series of State Library commissioned works by leading Australian garden photographers.
