Max Stewart entertained a youthful audience by hand-balancing atop the Bondi Beach flag. How he reached this position is not known, but height was never a deterrent for skilled hand-balancers. Wal Balmus had 25 years experience as an equilibrist, including hand-balancing on the edge of Niagara Falls, Bulli Pass and the Sydney Gap. Pix magazine (12 February 1938) published a photograph of him, aged 46, balancing atop the tower of the Sun building, 54 metres above Phillip Street.
