National Treasures from Australia's Great Libraries

National Treasures from Australia's Great Libraries brings together more than 170 extraordinary items that have shaped our nation. Drawn from the magnificent collections of Australia's National, State and Territory libraries, the exhibition contains manuscripts, maps, drawings, paintings and objects - from the everyday to the exotic - that explore the diversity and breadth of our history.

In this landmark exhibition Australia is explored in 8 different themes - Under the Southern Cross, Settlement, Land and Nature, Hope and Hardship, Heroes and Villains, War and Loss, Innovation and Industry, National Obsessions, and Culture. In the stories told, the unknown becomes everyday and what was once ordinary becomes extraordinary.

National Treasures from Australia's Great Libraries is an initiative of the Council of Australian State Libraries, and is managed by the National Library of Australia with generous support from sponsors and government agencies. These are: Principal Sponsor AAMI and Major Sponsors Qantas, The Daily Telegraph (NSW), Animal Logic, Sofitel, SBS Television and ABC Radio 702 (NSW). National Treasures is assisted by Visions of Australia and was made possible by Art Indemnity Australia, an Australian Government program through which the Commonwealth acts as insurer in case of any loss or damage to an indemnified exhibition.
