Lorna Thomas scrapbook 1973
In 1973, the first World Cup for women's cricket was held. Seven teams played for the Cup, including Australia, New Zealand, England, Young England, Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago and an International XI. Although some of the Australian team's expenses were met by cricket patron Jack Hayward, the women still had to raise much of their own funds to pay the travel and accommodation costs during the five week Cup. Warm-up matches were played in the West Indies and the Cup matches were held in England. Public interest in women's cricket during the World Cup was intense. England and Australia played the final match at Edgbaston in front of a large crowd which included Princess Anne. England won the Cup.
Lorna Thomas managed the team during the 1973 World Cup and kept this scrapbook as a memento of the trip.
