Tonight Joyce had her coming out Ball at "Carrara" Rose Bay, which I had specially furnished for the occasion. We took a great deal from "Harll"; also from Hilda at "Buyuma; and I got a great deal from Beard Watson"s and other places. We had heavy work all day fixing up the furniture in the various rooms downstairs which we used for the occasion. This shows the big drawing-room which is really three rooms at "Carrara" taken late in the afternoon after things were fairly finished

"Carrara", Tuesday 2nd May, 1911.
These two pictures show the ballroom which we built off the Carrara verandah. It was really a huge tent about 100 ft. at the widest end, and was nicely draped and decorated inside. It was 15 ft. to 20ft. off the ground in some parts, and therefore had to be built strong. As practically the whole of one side led into the ballroom there was never any crush although there were about 250 people present.

Page 3 - Album 57, 2nd May 1911 - 7th October 1911This picture of the ballroom shows the three big windows leading into the drawing-room, also the annex for the musicians. The Musicians' Stand of course had to be built apart from the Ballroom so as not shake all the time the dancing was going on. The first guests arrived at about 8.30, and everything went very well till 1 o'clock when the people began to go away. At 3 a.m. there were 60 or 70 people still dancing. We got home ourselves to "Harll" shortly after 4 o'clock.

These two photographs show the side of Carrara near the dining room. The wide steps led down into a huge marquee on the tennis court where we had supper at 11p.m. I took Aunt Lucy Dangar in to supper. Uncle A.A. Dangar took Ethel. We had an enormous number of thermos jugs and thermos pots for hot soup, hot peas and hot quail. The supper room held about 150 at the one time -

Madame Melba's Grand Opera Company arrived in Sydney this week and this evening Friday 25th August Mr and Mrs Hugh Ward gave a very large dinner party at Paris House to the members of the Company. About 30 people were present. It was a most amusing and interesting evening. I sat next to Mademoiselle Ranzenburg and Mr Burke. During the evening I met Madame Melba, Mmselle A?????, M. ??and Mme Wayda, Count and Countess de Cisneros , Zeni, McCormack (note - Irish tenor John McCormack) and various others. The Opera company started with Traviata on Saturday 2nd September and the whole season was an enormous success.
