Behind the scenes
The State Library of New South Wales has been pleased to welcome Peter Doyle as guest curator for Pulp Confidential: Quick and Dirty Publishing from the 40s & 50s.
Peter Doyle is a novelist, academic, musician and visual artist. He is an Associate Professor in Media at Macquarie University.
He is the author of three crime novels: Get Rich Quick (1996) won Australia's prestigious Ned Kelly Award for Best First Crime Novel. Amaze Your Friends (1998) was awarded the Ned Kelly for Best Crime Novel. His new novel The Big Whatever will be published by Dark Passage (USA) in April 2015.
Peter has had a long association with Sydney Living Museums, where he has guest curated a number of exhibitions, including the record-breaking City of Shadows (2005-present) at the Justice & Police Museum and Suburban Noir (2014) at the Museum of Sydney. He has authored two books drawing on the material in the Forensic Photography Archive at the Justice & Police Museum, City of Shadows: Sydney Police Photographs, 1912-1948 (HHT, 2005), and Crooks Like Us (HHT, 2009). He is currently working on a third Suburban Noir, to be published 2016.
He maintains research interests in Australian cultural history, musicology and popular music history.
