Over 170 colonists express their thanks to Macquarie for the ‘many benefits received and privileges here enjoyed’ under his ‘benign administration’. Notable by their absence are the signatures of exclusives such as John Macarthur, the Blaxland brothers and Samuel Marsden who were doubtless overjoyed by Macquarie’s resignation.
