In 1822 Standish Lawrence Harris was appointed Civil Architect in place of Greenway by Macquarie’s successor, Sir Thomas Brisbane. At the Governor’s request, Harris prepared a report on the condition of the colony’s public works, which was severely critical of Greenway’s buildings. Much of this criticism was unfounded.
