This grand, castellated stable in the Gothic style was commissioned by Macquarie and designed by Greenway to harmonise with a proposed new government house that was never built. Begun in 1817, the stable was condemned by Macquarie's critics as a costly, self-indulgent folly. It is now the New South Wales Conservatorium of Music.
