Block plans

H Percy Dove’s plans of Sydney cover the city from Port Jackson to Central Station and from Darling Harbour to Macquarie Street. They show the location of buildings and list their owners or occupiers, providing an extraordinary record of Sydney retail outlets and their proprietors.

Between 1919 and 1940 the Fire and Accident Underwriters Association issued further detailed survey maps of the city’s block plans. Showing the downtown area, they record the pace of constant change in the city’s busiest commercial precincts during the inter-war period.
