Back to Cootamundra Week, outside Commercial Bank of Sydney, showing winning entry in procession - Edgar Conkey's gondola - Cootamundra, NSW, 1926'Back to Cootamundra Celebrations', 1926.A colourful procession of decorated vehicles began the Back to Cootamundra week festivities, 24 - 30 October 1926. The Sydney Morning Herald described the scene: “The streets have been beautifully decorated, and enthusiasm prevails” (SMH, 25 October 1926). An illustrated souvenir booklet was published for the events :

Back to Cootamundra week at corner of Wallendoon and Parker Streets, Cootamundra, 1926The winning entry in the procession was a decorated 'gondola' by Edgar Conkey, of Conkey and Son, local dairy produce merchants and general store in Cootamundra established in the 1880s.

Back to Cootamundra Week at corner of Wallendoon and Sutton Streets, Cootamundra, NSW, 1926The procession was followed by a confetti battle and an official ceremony. 'The Mayor Alderman S. H. Dickson welcomed those who returned and made interesting references to the early history of Cootamundra' (SMH 26 Oct 1926). That evening 'Ye Olde Tyme Ball' was held in the Town Hall amid much revellry, it was reported.

Back to Cootamundra Week, NSW, 1926The colourful procession featured many local residents in fancy dress such as Bob Hulford (of Hulford Bros. Garage) wearing a tyre suit in foreground. He and his brother Harry were also founding members of the local Cootamundra motor cycle club, which was one of the best known clubs of its kind in NSW.
