Macquarie family collection

The State Library holds an unparalleled collection of Governor Macquarie's personal and family papers from 1787 - 1836, many of which were acquired from Viscountess Strathallan in 1914.

The Macquarie family collection includes Lachlan Macquarie's journals, letterbooks, correspondence, commissions, addresses, narratives and miscellaneous papers along with the journals and papers of his wife Elizabeth. The collection also includes exquisite family portraits, historical pictures belonging to the family, relics, maps and printed books.
