James Ruse Land grant, dated 22 February 1790, [1792]Believed to be the first official land grant made in NSW by Governor Phillip, on February 22 1792, to James Ruse, comprising 30 acres on the south side of Barrack Ponds at Parramatta known as Experiment Farm. The written date for the year, recorded as '1790', is probably a scribal error caused by ommission of the word 'two'. This grant also bears, on the reverse, notice of conveyance of the land from James Ruse to Surgeon John Harris for 40 pounds, dated 1 October, 1793.
