Newstead, Glen Innes, NSW, property of the Anderson Bros , n.d.
First settled by Europeans in 1841, Newstead is situated in the Macintyre Valley, near Inverell in the New England tablelands. One of the oldest homesteads in northern NSW, it was home to two family dynasties - the Andersons (1841-1904) and the Bucknells (1904-1980). Artist Tom Roberts immortalised the station in two of his most popular works: 'Bailed up!' and 'The Golden Fleece'. Painted in Newstead's shearing shed in 1894, and originally titled 'Shearing at Newstead', 'The Golden Fleece' was renamed in hommage to the Australian wool industry.
