An easterly view of the Lane Cover River from Hunters Hill

By Martin Wale, 2007

An easterly view of the Lane Cover River from Hunters Hill, encompassing Linley Point and St Ignatius College, Riverview. Built in 1884–5, the old iron truss Fig Tree Bridge in the foreground provided vehicular access to the city. It was named for Fig Tree Farm, part of a large area of land to the bridge’s southern end (not in view) purchased by early emancipist businesswoman Mary Reiby in 1835. Remnant portions of the old bridge remain alongside the new, which opened in 1963.
