Most spectacular occupants

By Louis Nowra

"For the young actress Kate Fitzpatrick the most spectacular occupants of the Cross in the late sixties were the strippers who worked between the Pink Pussycat and the the Pink Panther. The clubs were on opposite sides of the road and dancers worked both joint. She liked to watch them criss-crossing the road:

... sure footed in ridiculously high heels, young, tall, fit and stacked ... They looked like double-breasted Amazons ... They proudly sported gigantic, decorated beehives that would have made Marie Antoinette jealous. These often almost metre-high masterpieces were created weekly and kept in place with shellac."
