Miss Geaney [?]

1870-1875
Glass photonegative

Sarah Geaney was an assistant primary schoolteacher at Hill End and appears in several photographs with pupils at the school. In this unusual image, she looks out of a false window, a studio prop used only occasionally.

From A Lady's Visit to the Gold Diggings by Ellen Clacy, 1853

Perhaps, of all miserable positions for a well-educated and refined young person to be placed in, that of "little girls' teacher" in a lady's school is the worst.
