Thoroughly modern Miss Emily Chambers of Burwood, NSW, was always eager to try the latest fad. Emily and a friend packed their ski gear, paid their £20 and joined the Public Service Ski Club on a ten-day stint at the snow.

Emily’s photo album from this trip captures all energy and enthusiasm of a young woman experiencing early Australian commercial tourism to the snow. Their stay at the Hotel Kosciusko, at Diggers Creek near Jindabyne, from 1 to 11 August 1930, coincided with a heavy snowfall which turned the mountain resort into a veritable winter sports’ paradise.

The Hotel Kosciusko, built in 1909 at Diggers Creek near Jindabyne, was destroyed by fire in 1951.
