Pitt's style

By Annette Shiell and Ingrid Unger, ACE Biographical Portraits pg 35

"Pitt's style was detailed and he was known for his obsession with perfection. He preferred quality to quantity and was dedicated to his art. (Comic historian) John Ryan describes him as 'the finest comic artist in the classic adventure tradition that Australia has produced'".

Stanley Pitt

By Annette Shiell and Ingrid Unger, ACE Biographical Portraits pg 31

"Born at Rozelle, New South Wales in 1925, Pitt enjoyed drawing as a schoolboy and got into trouble fors pending more time on this pursuit than on his school work.Pitt became interested in the classic style of Raymond's Speed Gordon which was executed in clean lines and with a great deal of detail. In 1942, Pitt sold his first comic book Anthony Fury to Consolidated Press whilst working as a milkman. Soon after this he illustrated comic stories written by Frank Ashley and sold them to Frank Johnson Publications.Pitt lacked any formal art training and he appreciated the opportunity of associating with the Frank Johnson Publications' artists of the time- Unk White, Carl Lyon and Jim Russell. Pitt was the first Australian artist to have original material published in America".
