This manuscript chart of the southeastern Pacific features a detailed chart of Tahiti. In 1772, Don Domingo de Boenechea y Andonaegui (1713–1775) led a Spanish expedition to what is today known as Tahiti. Boenechea named the island Amat after Manuel de Amat y Juniet (1707–82), Viceroy of Peru.
