"Over the last 10 years The Vanguard has established itself to become one of Newtown most iconic venues."

A century ago Newtown’s many musical societies, jazz bands, orchestras and choirs were referred to as an 'epidemic'.

This venue has added to the speakeasy feel of King Street since its doors opened in 2003.

The Vanguard’s owner is also the creative director of a burlesque troupe. Their 2012 Star Wars themed show ‘The Empire Strips Back’ featured fur ‘Wookie’ bikinis. 

The Vanguard is one of 15 live music and cabaret venues in Newtown, but it is the only one that holds an annual Zombie Prom Night.
