In the late 1880s, woodcarvers and modellers operated a business here.

This business specialises in acupuncture and electromagnetic therapy.

In 1888, a fire broke out in a King Street herbalist's shop. Locals beat the fire brigade and volunteer squad in extinguishing the fire, and only a small portion of herbs were lost.

Lawrence Leong, a Sydney pharmacist and Chinese herbalist was fined £50 in 1947 ($3,100 today) for not registering his own formula for 126,000 sleeping tablets – analysis of the ingredients revealed they had a 'hypnotic effect'.
