In 1894, a debate about diet took place in the Newtown Presbyterian Church's schoolroom. Mr Percy Moggy, of the Vegetarian Society, advocated that 'man was not a carnivorous animal'.

This cooperative started in an Erskineville household engaged in a rent strike in 1981. With the money saved from not paying rent, the householders purchased grains, cereals, nuts and seeds to sell from their front room.

There is a permaculture garden at the back of the premises.

In 1921, Vincent Letton, who promoted himself as "The Gentle Dentist", ran his business from this address.
