Document Supply Service
The Document Supply Service of the State Library of New South Wales offers access to Library collections onsite and offsite through interlibrary loans and document supply. Access is also available to collections of other libraries.
Interlibrary loan and document supply services operate in accordance with the Australian Interlibrary Resource Sharing Code (ILRS). Charges may apply for these services. They include My loans (for libraries), Interlibrary loans, and Ordering copies from Library collections or from other libraries.

Interlibrary loans
You can use this service to order interlibrary loans from Library collections or from other libraries’ collections.
Ordering from Library collections
You can borrow many items in the State Reference Library — including books, videos, materials in other languages, and materials for people with disabilities — through your public, academic or work library on interlibrary loan. Over 100 000 items are lent each year, the majority to public libraries in New South Wales.
Some items, such as Mitchell Library material, are not available for loan. For more information on the types of material available for loan and loan periods, see the Library lending policy and the Library’s ILRS directory entry (type ?? into the ‘Name’ field.)
Please contact your public, academic or work library for information on ordering interlibrary loans from this Library.
Ordering from other libraries’ collections
If this Library does not hold the item you are looking for, the Document Supply Service can borrow it from another library for your use onsite.
Staff are available to help you search for items held in other libraries, and you can also search Libraries Australia to check for those items.
Please use the request forms at the Copy Desks in the State Reference Library and Mitchell Library to order items, or print out and return the request form to the Document Supply Service. Note that you must consult items within the Library.
Please also note that if you are using Interlibrary loans from overseas libraries, a prepayment is required.
Ordering copies from Library collections or from other libraries
You can use this service to order copies of documents which are supplied by the Library to other libraries and to individuals. Copies are made from all collections, including the manuscript and picture collections of the Mitchell Library.
Copies of documents not held by the Library can also be sourced and supplied through Australian or international suppliers.
Copyright
The Library can supply copies of documents under the fair dealing provisions of the Australian Copyright Act 1968. Copyright clearance for commercial use can also be arranged. In some cases, documents can be supplied from a copyright-cleared source.
How to order
Please use the request forms at the Copy Desks in the State Reference Library and Mitchell Library to order items, or print out and return the request form to the Document Supply Service. The Document Supply Service receives requests by email, fax or post, but note that a signed copy of the request form is required for copyright purposes. You can supply copies of documents electronically by fax or email.
