American National Biography Online

American National Biography offers portraits of more than 17,400 men and women -- from all eras and walks of life -- whose lives have shaped the American nation.It is updated quarterly, with hundreds of new entries each year and revisions of previously published entries to enhance their accuracy and currency. The ANB Online features thousands of illustrations, more than 80,000 hyperlinked cross-references, links to select web sites, and powerful search capabilities.

Australian Dictionary of Biography Online

This is the online version of the multi-volume reference work. It contains authoritative biographical entries on over 10,000 significant Australians who died before 1980. It can be searched by name, gender, religion, cultural heritage, and occupation.

Australian medical pioneers index

A database of over 3000 pioneer doctors from the 1700s through to 1875. The site covers Australian medical history with a database of medical pioneers and educational background material. It includes doctors who were registered or qualified in Australia, were resident in Australia, or visited here in a professional capacity, before 1875. Ships' surgeons, convict doctors, general practitioners and medical specialists are included.

Biography Index Retrospective: 1946-1983

This database contains over 627,000 article and book citations. It covers public figures, including actors, artists, business people, educators, military leaders, politicians, religious leaders, scientists, sports figures, statesmen, teachers, writers, etc.

Biography Reference Bank

This database covers over 550,000 people with narrative profiles and links to related full text articles, with more than 36,000 images. Search this database by name, profession, place of origin, gender, ethnicity, birth/death dates, titles of works, and keyword. This database also contains book review excerpts from Wilson's Book Review Digest Plus.

Biography Resource Center

Biography Resource Centre is a comprehensive biographical database containing nearly 415,000 brief biographies of more than 320,000 people gathered from over 780 volumes from 120 reference sources published by Gale. In addition it includes the full text of articles from over 280 periodicals.

Business Who's Who of Australia

This online database provides information on Australian public and private companies including company activities, contact details, company directors, branches, subsidiaries, company websites, tradenames and agencies. The company information is fully searchable which allows you to locate information such as companies within specific industries, companies by region or see who sits on which boards.

Civil war veterans living in Australia

Biographical information on the veterans of the American Civil War (1861-1865) who later settled in Australia and New Zealand.

Dictionary of Australian Artists Online (DAAO)

DAAO provides biographical data, contextual information, commentary and links to images databases.

The DAAO’s foundation biographies come from:

- Heritage: The national women's art book, edited by Joan Kerr

Dictionary of Australian biography 1949 edition.

Published by Angus & Robertson in 1949, the Dictionary of Australian biography by Percival Serle contains 1030 biographies of Australians, or people closely connected with Australia, who died before the end of 1942.

Dictionary of New Zealand biography

More than 3000 biographies of New Zealanders of historical note, originally published in the printed Dictionary of New Zealand biography series and in the parallel Maori-language series, Nga Tangata Taumata Rau. The editorial policy aims to include not only figures of national importance but also those who were representative in a regional, tribal, ethnic or occupational context. The site does not include people who are alive.

This site provides information on 'where everybody who was anybody is buried' although the emphasis is on American individuals. Categories include architects and artists, criminals, eccentrics and oddities, explorers and adventurers, musicians and composers.

The website contains information for over 200,000 cemeteries, most with maps.
