Artcyclopedia - The Guide to Great Art on the Internet

The Artcyclopedia is primarily an index to where paintings, sculptures and other great works of fine art can be viewed online, at hundreds of art museum sites and online archives worldwide. Links are classified by artist, and where possible by categories such as movement (for example, impressionism, cubism), medium (for example, photography, painting), subject matter (for example, landscapes, still life), and by nationality. The site also includes a comprehensive list of art museum sites worldwide, and a guide to visual search engines on the Internet.

Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals

This database is an important resource for research on architecture and design, covering a wide range of international scholarly and popular journals including the publications of professional associations and the major serial publications of Europe, Asia, America and Australia. Coverage is from 1934 to the present with selective indexing of earlier publications, such as the Journal of the Royal Institute of British Architects back to 1865.

Biography Resource Center

Biography Resource Centre is a comprehensive biographical database containing nearly 415,000 brief biographies of more than 320,000 people gathered from over 780 volumes from 120 reference sources published by Gale. In addition it includes the full text of articles from over 280 periodicals.

Book Review Digest Plus

This bibliographic database indexes and abstracts current English language fiction and nonfiction books for children and adults published or distributed in the United States or Canada. Periodical coverage includes leading magazines from the United States, Canada and Great Britain although at least one review must be from a periodical published in the United States or Canada. Reviews of textbooks, government publications, and technical books in the law and sciences are excluded.

Nearly 150,000 English-language titles and editions published between 1701 and 1800 will be made available online over the course of the next two years. Film Indexes Online brings together Film Index International and the AFI Catalog. Film Index International gives full international coverage of films and film personalities from over 170 countries. All eras of film-making are included, from the early silent movies onwards. It is based on the British Film Institute’s Summary of Information on Film and Television (SIFT) database. The AFI Catalog, from the American Film Institute, offers a detailed view of American feature films from 1893-1955 and 1961-1970. Full production and cast information as well as extensive plot summaries and notes are included.

Picture History (USA)

An online archive of images and film footage illustrating more than 200 years of American history. Included in its holdings are the Picture History Collection, the Meserve-Kunhardt Collection, and the Gordon Parks Collection.

The Picture History Collection includes 18th, 19th, and 20th century images. It specializes in American Presidents, the White House, and the iconic people, scenes, and events that tell the story of American history.

The Meserve-Kunhardt Collection includes 19th and early 20th century photography. It is known for its holdings on Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War, including not only scenes but the officers of both the Union and Confederate army and navy. It's holdings include coverage of the theater, the world of PT Barnum, early New York City and Washington DC, Native Americans, African Americans, artists, writers, journalists, clergy, scientists, and a large collection of notable 19th century American women.

The Gordon Parks Collection includes the life work of one of the 20th century's best known photojournalists. His images cover a broad range of subject that serve as distinct markers in American history.

Royal Institute of British Architects Library Catalogue

The Royal Institute of British Architects ( RIBA ) is the UK body for architecture and the architectural profession and the RIBA British Architectural Library, established in 1834, is the largest and most comprehensive resource in the UK for research on all aspects of architecture.

The Library's online catalogue is fully searchable by keyword, author, title, subject and series and provides:

(1) an index to articles in over 300 of the world's architectural periodicals and details of books and audio visual materials acquired by the RIBA Library.

(2) the holdings of the RIBA Library Photographs Collection.

(3) drawings, manuscripts and archives acquired by the RIBA Library Drawings and Archives Collection.

(4) a biographical database of architects.

The RIBA British Architectural Library holds a wide spectrum of subjects, ranging from prehistory to the present and is international in scope. In addition to architectural theory, practice and history there is material on allied subjects such as building and construction, civil engineering, structural engineering, landscape architecture, interior design and decoration, the decorative arts, town and country planning, and construction law.
