Auslan SignBank

Signbank is an interactive dictionary of Auslan (Australian Sign Language). Auslan is the language of the deaf community of Australia.

Austlit

Provides access to the Australian Literary Database which covers Australian creative writing and Australian writers. Subjects covered by the database include books, poems, short stories, articles and reviews and can be searched by author title, genre or award. The database contains records from 1880s to the current day, with comprehensive coverage from 1988.

Australian Poetry Resources Internet Library

This is a draft site to be further developed by a team headed by Professor Elizabeth Webby at the English Department of the University of Sydney and Creagh Cole at the University of Sydney Library, and involving Ross Coleman at the University of Sydney Library, the Copyright Agency Limited (CAL) as a Linkage Partner, John Tranter, and postgraduate students and research assistants.The project will focus on the presentation of original literary material from Australian poets. A secondary focus will be on the presentation of biographical, bibliographical and critical secondary material. The project will eventually provide original texts and basic background information on thousands of Australian poets selected by an advisory committee made up of writers, academic scholars, reviewers, librarians and publishers.

BHI: British Humanities Index

Book Review Digest Plus

This bibliographic database indexes and abstracts current English language fiction and nonfiction books for children and adults published or distributed in the United States or Canada. Periodical coverage includes leading magazines from the United States, Canada and Great Britain although at least one review must be from a periodical published in the United States or Canada. Reviews of textbooks, government publications, and technical books in the law and sciences are excluded.

Columbia Granger's World of Poetry

Columbia Granger's World of Poetrycontains works of poetry found in anthologies, and volumes of collected works and selected works for individual poets. Currently, there are over 500,000 poem citations and 175,300 poems in full text.

Also included is bibliographic information for over 1,800 anthologies. Supplemental information includes nearly 900 commentaries and approximately 450 biographies.

Early New Zealand books

The collection currently comprises 20 books (23 volumes) including the majority of those published in the first half of the 19th century. The books are keyword searchable, individually or as a collection.

Eighteenth Century Collections Online ( ECCO )

Nearly 150,000 English-language titles and editions published between 1701 and 1800 will be made available online over the course of the next two years. When complete, the product will allow full-text searching of more than 33 million pages of material, in essence, every significant English-language and foreign-language title printed in the United Kingdom, along with thousands of important works from the Americas.

Lightning bug - creative writing

Lightning Bug was conceived to help young adults engage with story writing. Written with a focus on fostering inspiration, finding voice, developing structure and encouraging an interest in writing. Literature Resource Centre contains biographies, bibliographies, and critical analyses of more than 120,000 authors from every age and literary discipline. Includes full text articles from many of Gale's literature series.

MLA International Bibliography

This database provides access to literature, language, linguistics and folklore. Over 3,000 journals are indexed. Monographs, working papers, proceedings, bibliographies and other formats are also covered.

This site provides a searchable catalogue for Penguin Australia titles only, or for all books that Penguin market and distribute in Australia. Search by title, author, keyword, subject, imprint and ISBN. The site also provides profiles for each author (where available) which includes a photograph, biographical details, information on awards and a list of titles published by Penguin.

Poetry archive

A web site of poets reading their own work. It is a growing resource and can be browsed by author name, poem title, subject and form.

Project Gutenberg of Australia

Project Gutenberg produces books in electronic form which are freely available to the public. This site provides access to over 10,000 texts.

Renascence editions

An online repository of works printed in English between the 1477 and 1799. Although produced with care and attention, the texts are not represented by the publisher as scholarly editions.

An archive of 2500 of the approximately 7000 languages on the planet.

SETIS

SETIS provides access to a large number of networked and in-house full text databases, primarily but not exclusively, source texts within the humanities. In addition to these literary, philosophical and religious texts the service is engaged in a number of text and image creation projects.

Short Story Index Retrospective: 1915-1983

This database contains bibliographic entries on more than 150,000 short stories published from the 1830s to the 1980s. Use this database to find stories by author, by topics/themes (e.g. mothers and daughters), by genre (e.g. science fiction), by locales where the story takes place (e.g. India, Rocky Mountains) and by names of individuals, peoples, and professions that the stories are about (e.g. Leonardo da Vinci, Apache Indians, dentists).
